Virginia, USA: The owners of a Virginia-based home healthcare company have admitted to running a major fraud scheme against the government. According to a press release from the Office of the Virginia Attorney General, Jason S. Miyares, Kafomdi “Josephine” Okocha and her husband, Samuel Okocha, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit healthcare fraud. The couple, who ran a business called 1st Adult N Pediatric Healthcare, now face up to eight years in prison for their role in the illegal operation.
The scam involved billing the government's Medicaid program for nursing services that were never actually provided to patients. Court documents revealed that from 2017 to 2023, the Okochas and their co-conspirators paid the parents or guardians of patients in exchange for blank, signed nursing notes. They would then fill out these fake records to make it look like legitimate care had been given, allowing them to illegally collect money from Medicaid. The investigation was a joint effort between the FBI and the Virginia Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit.
