Police in Cachar, Assam, have arrested the man they believe is the "MasterMind" of a major fake doctor racket operating in the Barak Valley. The man, Jayanta Prashad Das, also known as Dr. JP Das, is the 14th person to be arrested in the ongoing investigation.

Das was allegedly running a bogus medical school in Silchar called the National Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), which police say has no official recognition. This fake institute reportedly sold certificates in 'alternative medicine' to unqualified people, who then used the bogus credentials to work as doctors.

Cachar's Superintendent of Police, Numal Mahatta, said Das's name kept coming up during their investigation. “He was running a fake institute called the National Institute of Medical Sciences, which has no official recognition," Mahatta stated. Police are also investigating Das's own medical qualifications, with the SP adding, “We also suspect his own medical degree to be fake.
